Abiding in the Vine: Learning to Embrace the Pruning Season
This morning during my first TikTok Live, many people shared how spiritually disconnected they felt. Some said they couldn’t hear God’s voice anymore. Others felt lost, like they had no direction.
But the Holy Spirit reminded us of something powerful: you are not lost. You are not without direction. You can hear God’s voice—it may just be that He is speaking to you in a new way, one that you’re still learning to recognize.
After the live, I went for a walk. Along the way, I saw a broken branch lying on the ground, and instantly I was reminded of John 15:1, where Jesus says:
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”
That moment shifted everything.
We often think that feeling disconnected means God has left us, but in reality, many of us are just in a pruning season. Pruning is uncomfortable. It’s when God cuts away the things that no longer serve us, the things that keep us from fully growing in Him. It doesn’t mean He’s abandoned us—it means He’s preparing us.
Just like a fruit tree doesn’t bear fruit overnight, the fruit of your life will take time to grow. The pruning process is not punishment—it’s preparation.
So if you feel spiritually “quiet” right now, don’t lose hope. Don’t let the enemy convince you that God has stopped speaking. Instead, remember:
You are still abiding in Jesus.
You have not been cast out.
You are being shaped for greater growth.
The pruning process is designed to increase your faith, strengthen your wisdom, and sharpen your discernment. And when the fruit finally appears, you’ll be ready to steward it well.
