Open My Eyes, Lord

Scripture: 2 Kings 6:16–18
Theme: Spiritual Sight vs. Spiritual Blindness

There are moments when everything looks stacked against us—when fear sets in, and we feel completely vulnerable and powerless. But this story in 2 Kings shows us a powerful truth: What we see isn’t the whole story. Sometimes God’s greatest protective, guiding, and strengthening presence is hidden from view, waiting for us to ask Him to “open our eyes.”

🔹 Opening Reflection

Have you ever felt completely outnumbered—by problems, stress, or things you couldn’t control? You prayed, but the answers didn’t come in a way you could see or feel. That’s where Elisha’s servant was—he saw danger, but Elisha saw God’s protection.

This story is about more than armies and prophets; it’s about perception. It asks us:
What are we not seeing because we’re looking with human eyes instead of spiritual ones?

🔹 Key Moments in the Passage

6:16 “Don’t be afraid…For there are more on our side than on theirs!”
➥ Elisha sees what his servant can’t—that God’s army already surrounds them.

6:17 “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!”
➥ A simple, powerful prayer. God answers immediately, and the servant suddenly sees the hills full of horses and chariots of fire.

6:18 “O Lord, please make them blind.”
➥ As the enemies move in, Elisha prays again, and God clouds their understanding, rendering their attack powerless.

🔹 Reflection

This story highlights dramatic reversals:

➥ A fearful servant becomes a confident believer once his eyes are opened.
➥ A defensive prophet transforms into a victorious leader without drawing a sword.
➥ An attacking army finds itself blinded and vulnerable, not by force but by a simple, powerful prayer.

Sometimes we are like Elisha’s servant, seeing only danger and scarcity instead of God’s abundance. Other times we are blinded by fear, confusion, or disbelief. But the Lord is always near. He not only delivers us from danger; He transforms our view of reality.

Prayer

Lord, open my eyes.
Help me to see with faith and not with fear.
When life surrounds me and danger feels close,
Remind me that You are even closer.
Where I have been blind—spiritually, emotionally, or mentally—
I ask You to lift the veil.
Give me Elisha’s calm and confidence,
And let me live with the awareness that Heaven always fights for me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

➥ Are there places where you may be spiritually blind—where fear, doubt, or confusion have clouded your judgment?

➥ How would your confidence and peace shift if you truly believed, “There are more on my side than on theirs”?
